John Ferreira - The Shiatsu Shaman

"My goal is very simple, to relieve you of your pain so that you can enjoy life again. I promise to do everything I can to do this as quickly and affordably as possible. My aim is not to keep you coming back. If I can do the job in one or two visits, I WILL!"

I began studying various martial arts at the age of 12. During a class I suffered a mild back injury and my teacher, Shishir Inocalla, performed a Shiatsu treatment. The pain immediately vanished.
This practical application triggered a journey towards Chinese Medicine.

In 2004 I formally entered into becoming a Shiatsu Practitioner through a course offered at Vancouver’s Langara College.

Shiatsu is a way of accessing the body’s nervous system by pressing on and stimulating specific points of the body. From these points, we stimulate the change and healing your body can create itself.
Whether chronic pain, off-and-on-conditions or a general sense of physical unease, I work with your body to find the best methods for healing.

What makes my system different is that I use Bruce Lee's approach to martial arts and bring it to the healing arts.
"Absorb what is useful, reject what is useless, add what is specifically your own".

I work with many clients who have given up on conventional medicine and have been told to “learn to live with the pain” and “manage with medication”.

Treating people with Shiatsu, cupping, Korean Hand therapy and other treatments is my passion. I continue to learn new techniques and apply them according to the person's specific condition and needs.

" It’s a real blessing working with and be married to such a gentle, intuitive healer. John has a natural way of listening to each client to ensure their needs are met and each treatment is rejuvenating."

I love connecting with our clients in my day to day phone consultations, bookings, and organizing workplace wellness days and workshops.
It’s a great life when one can share the same passion with a spouse and enjoy each other at work and at play.

My first experience with Shiatsu Therapy was in the Philippines when my grandmother took me in for a treatment after I fell down her stairs. Of course at the time I didn't even know that it was Shiatsu Therapy. She called it "hilot", an ancient therapy that her mother used.

This memory came back to me when I reunited with John in 2009, whom I had originally met in high school as my 'locker neighbour' and for a while, my boyfriend.
Since high school we had both gotten married, raised our families, divorced and as fate would have it, reunited after all these years.
I love the woman that I have become and I always say, things happen for a reason like this quote from Marilyn Monroe who coincidentally was instrumental in bringing Shiatsu Therapy to the West.

“I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”
― Marilyn Monroe

I am thankful that my journey has lead me to a part of this Health and Wellness passion that John and I both share.
